Independent Study: Ceramics- Course Expectations

Independent Study/Ceramics allows students who have developed exceptional skills with the medium of clay to create a body of high quality work that is driven by the student's individual interests.

GOALS:

Students will:

  • Independently create a series of work that reflects your personal interests while pushing your skill level and the limits of the materials.

  • Exploit a particular process, such as wheel throwing or handbuilding to create a series of high quality work.

  • Investigate the history of ceramic arts and apply this knowledge to the development of your own work.

  • Critically reflect on each piece created to consider the design, craftsmanship and quality of the finished piece.

  • Work independently, using class time efficiently, to provide an example for lesser experienced students with respect to the use and care of materials, expected work habits and behavior, but, most importantly to provide an example for what is attainable through diligence and hard work.
